The RJ Reynolds Orchestra, Drama, and Band recently returned from a four night musical festival at sea. The combined Orchestra and Band Performed three tunes, and received a rating of Superior.

Visual arts students spent three days over Spring Break at the Penland School of Crafts, a prestigious art school that only accepts one high school group each year. Students learned felting and metal crafting, clogged, and experienced life at Penland.

This letter was mailed to all students accepted through the Magnet Application period. The information is pertinent to all new students, though. The RJR Magnet Office does not have a complete list of new students.

Famous mandolin player, Chris Thile, and WS Symphony Conductor, Robert Moody, visited orchestra classes March 15th. Please see the photo gallery for more pictures of this amazing experience.

The PTSA and Princeton Review are working collaboratively to offer a free ACT for Reynolds students. This is ideal for sophomores and juniors.

The Sawtooth Art Honors Summer Program is held from June 21-July 16. Successful completion of this program will give students credit for Art 1 and will allow them to take more advanced art classes here at Reynolds. Call 723-7395 to learn more.

On February 28th at 3 PM, A Cappella groups from Elon, UNCW, and Reynolds High School sang to raise money and awareness for the Red Cross Haiti Survivors' Fund. The WS Journal covered the concert in this article.

Three RJR students qualified for All District Band and spent the weekend at Appalachian State University February 19-21 at an All District Band workshop and concert. Congratulations to Jeremey, Anita, and Ellis!

The A Cappella Jam for Hope concert will be February 28th at 3 PM in the auditorium. Come hear this concert featuring groups from area colleges and the RJR A Cappella singers. Proceeds benefit the Haiti Relief Effort.

The Spartones (a cappella group from UNCG) performed on the Matt Gfeller Outdoor Amphitheatre for the first of many lunchtime opportunities for Reynolds students.

More than thirty arts intensive juniors participated in summer internships with community arts groups that were arranged by the faculty of the RJR Arts for Academics Magnet Program.

Nine students and two service clubs have earned Presidential Service Awards for volunteering in the community.

Leah Davis, RJR Senior, has won the National PTSA Reflections contest in dance choreography.

NCSF will perform in the Black Box Theatre and the actors will have workshops in some English classes to help Shakespeare come alive. Students will participate in Shakespeare International at 7 PM on April 23rd.

On April 24th from 5-7, the RJR cafeteria will be transformed into a Kenyan classroom while student performers drum, dance, and sing on the Matt Gfeller Outdoor performance stage. would have spent on dinner to Care Highway.

Nine-time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion and original musical star of Riverdance, Eileen Ivers, spent the day with RJR students on March 10th. The musicians worked with Jazz Band, dance, and Orchestra students.

A lottery was held at Central Office to select applicants for the 2009-2010 school year. All applicants will receive a letter from WSFCS stating their application status.

On February 5, 2009, the RJR Women's A Cappella Group "Syncopate" was on the morning news to advertise the A Cappella Jam for Hope. This concert will be at 7 PM at the RJR Auditorium on February 7th. Admission is a minimum donation of $5.

If you live outside of the RJR residential zone and wish to attend RJR High School for the 2009-2010 school year, you MUST apply during January.

Two of our students artwork have been selected to hang at Reynolda House Museum for the Reynolda House Exhibit, December 5, 2008 -January 4, 2009

Reynolds students will have the privilege of working with a professional dance company next semester starting in February of 09.

This year's theme is "WOW!" You are encouraged to showcase your talents in visual arts, photography, literature, musical composition, dance choreography, or film production.

In collaboration with the Secrest Series of WFU, Irvin Mayfield and the NOJO performed for students and had a daylong residency with the Reynolds students. This incredible opportunity was made possible through the Arts Magnet Grant and WFU.

A parent orientation will occur during the PTSA meeting October 6th. The Director and teachers of the Arts Magnet Office will be available that evening to answer questions about how the Arts Magnet Program will enhance the education of your students.
