The IB Middle Years Program adheres to a thematic interdisciplinary framework embedded within the academic subjects. The eight academic subjects include: mathematics, arts, Language A (English) and Language B (foreign language), humanities, technology, physical education, and sciences. The IB Middle Years Program presents subject learning through five unique lenses known as the Areas of Interaction. The Areas of Interaction form the core of the IBMYP and are integrated into the subject areas. These are Approaches to Learning, Community Service, Health and Social Education, Environment, and Home Faber ("Man the maker"). Students are responsible for a personal project in Grade 10 that culminates their years in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.
A Specialty Center Without an Isolated Specialty
In Winston-Salem/Forsyth County all middle schools and high schools offer advanced courses of study and areas of specialization to students. However, the uniqueness of the magnet program educational choice is that it is the only specialty center program to provide a broad reaching liberal arts education that prepares students for a variety of career choices and future college specializations.
