Why wait? Our online application makes it fast and easy.

Applying to a magnet school is easy

  • Get to know the magnet schools by visiting those schools that interest you, reading descriptions about each school or by exploring the schools online.

  • Fill out an application for the school of your choice. Applications are available at the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Administrative Offices at 1605 Miller Street in Winston-Salem. Parents also can apply online by clicking here.

  • Online Applications will be processed in the order in which they are received beginning January 3, 2008. The application period will end at 4:30 p.m. on January 31, 2008; applications received after the deadline will be added to a waiting list. If you provide an email address during the application process, you will receive an email confirmation that your information has been received.

  • Paper Applications: Complete and submit an application form by the deadline to the magnet school you've chosen or the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Magnet Schools Office, 1605 Miller St., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103. A lottery may be held if there are more applications to attend magnet schools than spaces available.

  • Look for a letter to arrive in mail notifying you if your child has been accepted. Parents who meet the early enrollment application deadline will be notified by mail (regardless if they  apply online or by mail) of their child's acceptance to the magnet schools in February.

Special Enrollment Information

With the exception of the Downtown Elementary School, magnet schools are open to students from throughout Forsyth County. The Downtown Elementary School is open to students from families who live or work in the central urban area of Winston-Salem, or who work at the school's primary business partner, Reynolds American Inc.

Preference for magnet school enrollment is given to students who live in the magnet school's residential attendance area, with the exception of Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy, which has no residential attendance area for high school students.

Transportation

Transportation is provided to all magnet schools except for the Downtown Elementary School. There will be Express Bus Route service for students who live outside the residential zone of their chosen magnet school. For more information about Winston-Salem/Forsyth County magnet schools, call the Magnet Schools Office at 727-2519.
